HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LITTLE MISS "A"
My newest little buddy, and one of my favorite subjects to photograph is my new little cousin, Miss Abby. You may have seen some pictures I did of her about a month ago. Well, she just celebrated her first birthday on December 11, and what a special time it was for her and her family. Every child's first birthday is magical, but for her and her family, this had to be a truly remarkable day. As a gift, I offered to do a birthday slideshow for her first year. I must say, upon starting this project, every conceivable thing that could go wrong did, as is customary when I offer to do something like this. In spite of that, I was able to finish it, not at the exact time needed, but finish none the less. It was a gift for Abby and her family, but I received the greater gift. What a blessing it was for me to get a glimpse into their adoption journey and to learn to appreciate the miracle of it all. I read something recently about adoption, the quote was,
"Not flesh of my flesh nor bone of my bone, but still miraculously my own. Never forget for a single minute, that you grew not under my heart, but in it."
After spending time with Abby and documenting the Terry and Angie's journey to bring her home, I see myself what the quote above truly means. The great thing for me is a love for this sweet little girl grows in my heart as well. Miss Abby, you are truly a blessing.

A Poem titled, The Adopted Child
I Did not plant you, True. But when The season is done - When the alternate Prayers for sun And for rain Are counted- When the pain Of weeding And the pride Of watching Are through-
Then I will hold you High, A shining sheaf Above the thousand Seeds grown wild.
Not my planting, But by heaven My harvest - My own child.

Then I will hold you High, A shining sheaf Above the thousand Seeds grown wild.
