Alexandra and Kara have always been buddies, they were born less than a month apart, and they have grown up in the same church, doing a lot of the same activities,so it stands to reason they might be friends.
It wasn't a guarantee.
They have competitive spirits and that at times has presented a challenge. You see they are both very smart, in very different ways, but they are different in a lot of ways, Alexandra is more girly while Kara is more of a outdoor girl. The even greater challenge has been getting them to realize they are both really special, really wonderful girls.
This fall they both played basketball. This was Alex's first year, Kara is the old pro. In such a competitive situation, one might have wondered how they would handle it, would it affect their friendship?
You pray that God will guide your children to the right kind of friends and teach them the true meaning of friendship, I think that prayer for me has been answered with the friend that Alex has found in Kara. They have made it through this basketball season, with their friendship as strong as ever. Kara has tried to encourage and teach Alex and Alex has gone up against her buddy with nothing but smiles on her face.
The picture above is from today, their last game.
It is fitting that both their first and last games were played against each other.
They are both smiling and proud of those metals they worked so hard for.
As a mom, I smile, not simply because of the metals, but because of the friendship that God has blessed these two with, and because I get to watch it grow and blossom year after year.
Love you girls!!!
