the new king in town,
Mr. Blake Conwell!

Though the photos are blurry
and red-eye abounds,
you can still see how
happy he was to be "King".
As he stood at the gym entrance
waiting for them to announce his name....
he didn't seem too nervous,
if he was, you wouldn't have been able to tell.

Upon entering the room
he looked down for a brief moment
as if the nervous were starting to show...

but then...
he pulled that head up and all you could see
was a smile...
a BIG one!!

The waited to hear their names called...
Sorry for the crazy eyes!

and
as soon as the award was in his hand...
this HUGE, not big, but HUGE grin
was all you could see

At first,
I thought he had chosen that moment in time
to become a comedian...

and though everyone around us
thought it was hilarious,
I stood waving franticly at him...
yelling
"Not that grin...please not that grin!"
and... for a moment... he stopped

and then,
there it was again!

When I cornered him afterwards
and asked why the HUGE grin...
he said
"I couldn't help it, I was happy."
That's all he had to say...

He thought it was awesome
that so many people wanted their picture
made with
"The King".
Here he is with his queen,
Miss Beth

and his buddy from his class...
Mr. Dakota

Usually you have to fight to get my dad
to smile in a picture.
That night,
I had no problem.
I don't know who was more excited,
Blake or his Papaw!

Miss Paige....
I guess you could say
she is very fond of the "King".
So, she asked if she could
have her picture taken with him.
Blake certainly didn't complain!

Blake wasn't the only royalty crowned that night....
Miss Zoe was crowned "Princess".

The "King" and his proud Grandma

Aunt Kathy liked the award so much
she tried to take it for herself.

and then...
there's Mrs. Angie,
his teacher.
He couldn't have been more blessed
to have been placed in her class this year.
He thinks the world of her...

and it looks as though
she thinks he's pretty great too!

This was Blake's poster.
He loved it...
but Mr. Kirk hated it...
because every day a new piece of it
was laying on the floor
waiting to be hot glued back on.
I guess you could say...
I got a little carried away!

He carried that plaque around the rest of the night
and when I woke up the next morning...
there he sat on the couch... with the plaque beside him.
The fact that he was so proud of it
made it so special for us.
What I was most proud of...
a conversation he had with me
a couple of days before.
He came and stood beside me
as I was dipping
my 1,000,000th pretzel in chocolate.
He wanted to help me, so I let him,
if fact, I appreciated it.
Then, without a lot of fanfare, he said simply...
"Mom, thanks for doing this."
Enough said...Enough said.
Love you "King"
Congratulations!
